Following the action-packed Grand Prix of the United Kingdom, the drivers will head to Spielberg, Austria, for the Grand Prix of Austria. Max Verstappen will be hoping to return to the podium in Austria, where Mercedes will be working to get better and Ferrari will keep trying to catch up to Red Bull.
On Sunday, the second of a string of seven consecutive European Grand Prix will get under way, and in preparation for it, we have provided a preview of the action below.
This season has been dominated by Ferrari and Red Bull throughout its entirety, as both teams currently sit atop the Constructors Championship and their drivers currently make up the top four positions in the Drivers Championship respectively. Mercedes’ performance this season has not been particularly impressive; however, the team is currently third in the constructors’ standings, and their drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, are currently fifth and sixth in the championship, respectively.
Despite finishing in seventh place at Silverstone, reigning world champion Max Verstappen is still the betting favorite to win on Sunday in Austria at odds of 5/6. The Dutchman maintains his lead over his teammate Sergio Perez, who is currently in second place in the drivers’ standings, with a 34-point advantage. If he were to win the game on Sunday, it would put him at least 40 points ahead of the pack as we approach the halfway point of the season.
Sergio Perez is the other half of the dominant Red Bull team, and he made certain that his team took home a good share of the points with a second-place finish over the weekend. He did this by ensuring that his team finished in second place. He is currently the fourth favorite to win the competition in Austria, with odds of 10/1.
In the end, Carlos Sainz prevailed over his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc to take first place and win his first race in Formula One on the weekend of his 150th attempt. The victory came on Sainz’s milestone 150th attempt. As a result of that performance, he will enter this weekend as the third favorite at 9/1 odds to win first place on the podium.
Charles Leclerc, who has spent the majority of the season playing second fiddle to Max Verstappen, is once again the second favorite, with odds of 11/4 to win the race on Sunday. After falling short of the podium at Silverstone, he will be looking to redeem himself this weekend and has odds of 4/9 to do so.
On the previous Sunday, Lewis Hamilton finished in third place at his home circuit after putting in a stellar performance in the Mercedes, which is continually getting better. Although he enters the weekend as the fifth favorite to win the race at odds of 11/1, it is likely that Lewis Hamilton will be content if he can just make it to the podium for a second consecutive race. Hamilton is a seven-time world champion, and his odds of doing so are 2/1.

The other competitors in the field
Fernando Alonso of Alpine demonstrated his prowess by finishing fifth at Silverstone over the weekend. The two-time world champion is one of the most experienced drivers on the grid; however, due to the dominance of richer teams such as Red Bull and Ferrari, a win appears to be extremely unlikely at odds of 175/1. However, if he can drive as well as he did last weekend, he appears to have a chance of finishing in the top six at odds of 11/8.
George Russell was unlucky to crash out on the first corner at his home circuit, and he will be eager to gain some points for Mercedes in Austria. It doesn’t seem unlikely that he will be able to do so, as the Brit is 1/3 to finish in the top six and a shoe-in at 1/5 to finish in the points, and he is 11/4 to achieve his fourth podium finish of the season.
At Silverstone, Mick Schumacher, who drives for Haas, picked up his first points of the season and came close to finishing ahead of Max Verstappen, who is the defending world champion. The driver who has one of the most well-known names in the sport will be hoping for a similar result to the one he had the previous weekend and has odds of 5/2 to finish in the points this time around.
