The wait is almost over: the most recent installment of “The Match” will take place on December 10 at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, pitting Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
A couple of months ago, the four superstars decided to participate in the exhibition series, which is going to be played for the seventh time and the second time in 2022 after an NFL quarterback competition was played in June. The match will be shown on TNT and is scheduled to start at six o’clock in the evening under the lights. It is anticipated that there will be some incredible action during the match because all four competitors will be mic’d up.
Let’s take a closer look at the format, the event details, and how things could potentially go down in Florida on Saturday night.
Saturday at 6:00 PM EST, Woods/McIlroy vs. Thomas/Spieth (-130)

You should tune in to TBS, TruTV, and HLN.
The tournament will last for a total of 12 holes, and its format is rumored to be better ball match play. As always, there will be a lighthearted spirit to it, and all of the proceeds will be donated to charity. This year, the funds that are raised will go toward Hurricane Ian relief efforts, which is a cause that many Floridians feel strongly about.
This will be Woods’ third appearance in “The Match,” despite the fact that the golfing legend’s days of playing competitive golf are rapidly coming to an end. He took part in the opening match against Phil Mickelson in November of 2018, and then he came back in 2020 to team up with Peyton Manning to defeat Mickelson and Tom Brady in a charity competition during the early stages of the pandemic. In the opening match, he faced off against Mickelson.
Although Thomas did work as a pundit during the aforementioned charity match in 2020, McIlroy, Spieth, and Thomas will all be making their first appearances at the event. In September of 2020, Woods, McIlroy, and Thomas took part in an exhibition that was very similar to the one in order to raise funds for the Payne Family Foundation while also promoting Payne’s Valley Golf Club, which was the first public-access golf course designed by Woods’ TGR Design firm.
As for the main attraction, Tiger Woods made three official starts in 2022 after he had recovered from injuries sustained in a car accident in February 2021. He missed the cut at the Masters but was able to do so at the PGA Championship. He may have played the Old Course for the last time at the Open Championship. McIlroy, Tiger’s teammate, won three tournaments in 2022, one of which was the FedEx Cup. McIlroy is expected to be this team’s big hitter off the tee while Tiger recovers from his most recent injury.
Thomas won the PGA Championship for the second time in his career with a playoff victory at Southern Hills, while Spieth won the RBC Heritage and just recently led the United States to victory in the Presidents Cup with a perfect record of five rounds played. Thomas won the PGA Championship for the second time in his career.
I think that longtime pals Thomas and Spieth, who have the advantages of youth and good health, will prevail in this competition.
Choose: Thomas or Spieth (-130)
